Finding Venus (3)

Get Out of Your Head.

Into Your Hips.

This is not a dance class.
This is nervous system repair through movement, music, and the body's own intelligence.

What can I expect?

A 8-week guided experience:

  • Move through blocked energy tied to your chakras

  • Unhook from shame that’s lived too long in your hips, belly, throat

  • Reclaim your intuitive body rhythm—eyes closed, no mirrors, no performance

  • Restore your inner compass through music, myth, and movement

Chakradance isn’t just for your soul—it supports our whole community.
Every full class helps fund our Natural Leaders youth workers, who are co-creating a community food forest with rangatahi in Upper Hutt. Come dance, heal, and grow something beautiful with us.

What is Chakradance?

Q: What happens in a Chakradance class?
A: Guided free-form movement, music tuned to your energy centers, and time to reflect—like a moving meditation.

Q: Is it like yoga or regular dance?
A: It’s more like dancing with your eyes closed than a choreographed class. Think: intuitive, not structured.

Q: What are chakras and why do they matter?
A: Chakras are energy centers tied to emotions, instincts, and body systems. We explore them through movement and music.  If you have historical trauma that hasn't been resolved sometimes it can show up in the chakras as excessive or diminished energy.  The dance helps to identify and provides a tool to help unblock the area.

Q: Is this religious or spiritual?
A: It’s more personal than religious—no belief system required. Just a willingness to explore yourself.

Q: How is Chakradance different from other movement practices?
A: It’s less about how you look and more about how you feel—no mirrors, no judgment, just freedom.  The closest to it would be 5 rhythms dance but it is its own unique methodology.

Q: The name sounds pretty hippy woowoo, should I be worried?

A: To be fair, the main Chakradance website is pretty woo.  Lets just say our version is more pragmatic and grounded than off with the fairies. Ours is for the woo curious.  Run by a prior Naval Officer turned youth worker who keeps an open mind about most things.

Do I need to be a dancer or fit to do this?

Q: Do I need dance experience?
A: Nope. If you can move, you can do Chakradance.

Q: I feel self-conscious dancing—will I still enjoy it?
A: Honestly you will feel like a dick in the beginning just like everyone else in the class...But after very short while you start to drop the self conscious part and just move. Most of it’s done with eyes closed in a low-lit space. It’s private, even in a group.

Q: What if I'm overweight?
A: Sweet you will fit right in.  So am I.

Q: What if I have an injury or low energy?
A: You can go as gently as you need. Your body, your pace.

Q: Is it high intensity?
A: You control the intensity.  My job is to keep you and those around you safe if you need to dance something out of you.

What will I feel or get out of it?

Q: Can it help with stress or emotional healing?
A: Absolutely. People often leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded.

Q: Does it help physically too?
A: Yes—gentle movement helps circulation, breath, and nervous system regulation.

Q: Is it like therapy or a workout?
A: A bit of both, but more soulful than sweaty.

Q: What if I get emotional?
A: That’s welcome. All feelings have space here—no pressure to share, just to feel and release.

What does a typical session look like?

Q: How long is each class?
A: Around 90 minutes.

Q: Do we just dance?

A: We start by having a welcome circle with a bit of information about the chakra we will explore and a check in from the week prior.  Next we dance, then we have a creative integration time where we draw out any insights that came to us in the dance.  Finally we have a brief closing circle.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Just comfy clothes, water, and an open mind.

Q: Will I dance in front of others?
A: You’ll be in the same room, but it’s eyes closed—no one’s watching.

Q: Is there talking?
A: A little to guide you in and out, but mostly it’s music, movement, and reflection.

Q: Do I need to know anything about chakras?
A: Not at all. Everything’s gently introduced.

Who else comes to this?

Q: Is it mostly women? Can men come?
A: All genders are welcome. It often draws people curious about self-discovery.

Q: Is it LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse friendly?
A: 100%. We’re all about creating a safe, inclusive space.

Q: What’s the group vibe like?
A: Supportive, chill, non-judgy, and open-minded.

How much does it cost and what are my options?

Q: Can I try a class first?
A: Yes! We offer an intro session for $35.00 which you can take before committing to a series.  However the series is limited to 20 people and it will be first come first served for the series and if you book the series before the end of April you get the taster session for free.

Q: Do you offer packages?
A: Yep—the whole series of 8 sessions costs $240.00.

Q: What if I miss a session?
A: Life happens. We have not set a date for the next series but if it happens then you will be able to make it up during a future session.

What past students have to say

Jaleh + Chakradance

"Chakradance is music and movement for my soul. Whenever I’m feeling ‘stuck,’ I use the skills I learned from Mandi to tune into the chakra I need to work on. The music is specially created to match the energy of each chakra, helping me reconnect with myself and find balance. I can physically and emotionally feel the shift as blockages begin to move and clear. Chakradance classes provide the safest space I’ve found to release stored energy and let movement and dance truly set me free!"
